Skytracker Orientation Equips Stakeholders to Monitor Municipal Fishing Vessels with ALON VMS

As part of the continuing efforts under the FFSAPI-SARGEN Handline FIP, a Skytracker Orientation was successfully conducted on May 26, 2025, at the SFFAII Office. This orientation marks a crucial next step following the recent installation of ALON Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) units on municipal fishing vessels.

The Skytracker platform, developed by Navcast Asia, provides real-time vessel tracking and monitoring capabilities, enabling project implementers, local authorities, and fisheries stakeholders to closely oversee vessel activities at sea.

During the session, participants were guided through the features and functionalities of the Skytracker dashboard, including:

  • Live vessel tracking using the ALON VMS

  • Geo-fencing and alerts for unauthorized movements

  • Trip history logs and route playback

  • Data analysis tools for improved fisheries management

The training was led by Navcast Asia’s technical team, who provided demonstrations and answered questions regarding the platform’s usage, troubleshooting, and integration into daily monitoring protocols.

This orientation ensures that stakeholders are equipped not only with the hardware onboard vessels but also with the technical knowledge needed to manage and interpret data coming from the ALON system. It also reinforces the project’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainability.

With the Skytracker system now in place, the FIP can actively monitor fishing trips, enhance traceability, and support responsible sourcing—a major step forward in aligning with international seafood market standards.
