MSC and FIP Technical Orientation for Municipal Fishermen in maasim

Municipal fishermen are one of the major suppliers of Class A tuna to the Fresh Frozen Seafoods Association of the Philippines, Inc. (FFSAPI). An orientation regarding the implementation of the Fisheries Improvement Project towards the Marine Stewardship Council Certification was held on April 8, 2023, in Kablacan, Maasim Sarangani Province.

The discussion focused on What MSC is all about, Who should seek MSC certification, Why get your fishery MSC certified, and How to achieve MSC certification. It also tackled the Three Core Principles of MSC and the significance of this project in handline fishing, especially for boat operators, the benefits of enrolling in the Fisheries Improvement Project, and the commitment of the processor in terms of priority and premium price.This municipal fishery operates with a boat capacity of 3 GT and below. The orientation was attended by municipal boat operators and some processors, with a total of 60 participants.
