On August 13, 2025 – Key stakeholders in the Philippines’ yellowfin and bigeye tuna handline fishery convened at The Village Events Place, General Santos City for the Fisher Awareness of Rights ‘Train the Trainer’ Workshop.
The event gathered commercial and municipal handline vessel owners, operators, fishers, and officers of the SARGEN Fish Port Tuna Handline Fishing Association.
Facilitated by Ms. Becky Caton of Key Traceability, in partnership with the implementing team from Contreras Professional Consultancy Corp., the workshop aimed to equip participants to train fellow crew members on the Human Rights and Social Responsibilities (HRSR) policy requirements of FisheryProgress.org. Key topics included the Human Rights policy, grievance mechanism, and age verification process.
Engaging discussions, practical applications, and interactive group quizzes kept participants actively involved throughout the day. Certificates of completion and quiz prizes capped off the event, underscoring the collaborative spirit and commitment to upholding social responsibility in the fishery sector.
