Since the establishment of the plan to boost the standing of our fishery particularly in Fresh-Frozen and Tuna Handline sector, FFSAPI-SARGEN Handline with its implementing team, the Contreras Professional Consultancy Corporation (CPCC), conducted its very first Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fisheries Improvement Plan (FIP) Technical Orientation that transpired in 14th day of February 2023.
Highlighting the project title “FFSAPI-SARGEN HANDLINE Fisheries Improvement Project for Yellowfin and Bigeye Tuna Handline Fishery in Fisheries Management Areas 2 and 3”, the orientation was led by CPCC’s very own project manager and president Ms. Rosanna Bernadette Contreras alongside with her constituents, together with the stakeholders and members of the industry. The orientation was attended by boat operators who intend to enroll their vessels on the certification process and by the processors as they show their support for the implementation of this project.
Thorough discussion on the current situation of the abovementioned fishing sector and the significance of MSC certification to the food security, sustainability and conservation of our finite fishery resources were discussed during the said event. Moreover, principles of the fisheries standards and performance indicators as well as the requirements to submit prior to the enrollment in FIP was also presented to the main actors of the project – the handline suppliers and the processors.
