DOLE 12 Strengthens Collaboration for Sustainable Fisheries

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 12 convened industry stakeholders on February 4, 2025, in General Santos City for the Fishing and Allied Services Industry Tripartite Council (ITC) Meeting. This gathering brought together private employers, workers, labor groups, processors, and government agencies to address key challenges in the fishing sector and enhance industry collaboration.

A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion on the Fishery Improvement Project (FIP), which promotes sustainable fishing practices, responsible resource management, and improved labor conditions. The project was presented with its progress of ongoing initiatives and outlined future activities to ensure the its successful implementation. DOLE Region 12, under the leadership of Regional Director Joel Gonzales, reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting the FIP and advancing sustainability in the industry.

In addition to FIP discussions, updates on SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG benefits were provided to ensure that fishery workers receive adequate social protection. DOLE also highlighted its programs focused on labor rights, occupational safety, and workforce development, reinforcing its dedication to fostering a fair and sustainable fishing industry.
