The SARGEN Tuna Handline Fisheries Improvement Project successfully conducted the Final Consultation Workshop on November 5, 2025, at Venue 88, General Santos City. The activity gathered crew members, captains, vessel owners, association leaders, and other key stakeholders, all working together to finalize essential policies that support safe, ethical, and responsible tuna handline fishing.
Throughout the day, stakeholders participated in focused consultation sessions covering:
– Recording of Working and Rest Hours Policy and recorder template
– Written Work Agreement Policy and standardized contract template
– Handline Fishers Onboarding Policy to strengthen legal and ethical crew verification
– Health and Safety and PPE Policy to improve safe fishing practices
Each session provided space for participants to review templates, raise concerns, and agree on refinements that will guide full implementation across the fishery.
This activity marks a major step in harmonizing social responsibility practices within the fishery, ensuring safer, fairer, and more sustainable working conditions for all handline fishers.
