FFSAPI-SARGEN Handline FIP Conducts Training for Handline Fishers on Logsheet Reporting, Species Identification, and Consultation on ETP Policy

The FIP successfully conducted a training for handline fishers on accurate logsheet reporting, species identification, and initial consultation on the Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) Species Policy.

Held on October 24, 2025, the training aimed to enhance the capacity of handline fishers to accurately record catch data, identify species, and strengthen compliance with ETP conservation measures under BFAR FAO 208 Series of 2001 and FAO 208-1 Series of 2024.

Resource speakers from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region XII provided comprehensive sessions on:

  • Proper Logsheet Preparation

  • Catch Documentation

  • Species Identification (Pelagic and Bycatch)

  • Orientation on FAO 208 and FAO 208-1

The program concluded with an Initial Consultation on the ETP Policy for SARGEN Handline Members.

This training forms part of the ongoing efforts of the FFSAPI-SARGEN Handline FIP to promote responsible fishing practices, improve catch traceability, and ensure compliance with environmental and social standards toward achieving sustainable tuna fisheries.
