FFSAPI-SARGEN FiP Unveiled at the 23rd National Tuna Congress

The 23rd National Tuna Congress, held at SM Trade Hall, 3rd Floor of SM City General Santos from August 31 to September 1, 2023, under the theme “Adapting Strategies Responsive to Global Challenges,” served as a pivotal gathering for experts and stakeholders. This two-day congress focused on addressing critical global challenges confronting the tuna industry while emphasizing the promotion of sustainable fishing practices.

During the second day’s plenary sessions, Engr. Emma F. Garay, Project Lead and President of the Fresh Frozen Seafood Association of the Philippines (FFSAPI), presented the FFSAPI-SARGEN Tuna Handline Fisheries Improvement Project aimed at achieving MSC Certification. In her presentation, she highlighted the escalating urgency of establishing sustainable fisheries in recent years. 

Furthermore, Ms. Garay’s presentation underscored the profound significance of the FIP project in addressing the critical need for sustainable fisheries and shed light on the challenges faced by the fishing industry.
