FADS STUDY ON THE ROLL FOR FMA 2 and FMA 3

In an online preliminary meeting on January 25, 2024, Philippine Fisheries Observer Program  (PFOP) and other stakeholders discussed the impact of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) on marine life and agreed on the need for responsible usage. PFOP has initiated a FAD study focusing on handline tuna fisheries in FMA 2 and FMA 3. The study covers on interactions between different types of fish. The target is completing it by December 2024.

The study will examine fishing practices in specific areas, involving 10% of boats enrolled in the FFSAPI-SARGEN Handline FIP. This collaboration signals a significant step towards sustainable fishing practices and environmental stewardship.

Stay tuned for updates on their progress.
