Distribution of Headlamps to Support Safer Night Fishing for FIP Fishermen

In line with efforts to enhance safety and efficiency during nighttime fishing operations, Key Traceability has distributed headlamps to participants of the Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) in the yellowfin and bigeye tuna handline sector.

The distribution was held on August 13, 2025, at the SARGEN Handline Office in Market 1, General Santos Fish Port, where vessel owners personally received the equipment intended for their crews.

The following morning, August 14, Ms. Becky Caton of Key Traceability, together with the FIP implementing team, visited the port to personally deliver headlamps to fishermen aboard a docked fishing vessel. This direct handover ensured that the equipment reached those who would immediately benefit from its use during upcoming fishing operations.

The remaining units were distributed later the same day during the Trainer of Trainers Workshop at The Village Events Place, attended by company representatives, vessel owners, operators, and fishers.

The provision of these headlamps is expected to significantly improve visibility, reduce the risk of accidents, and enhance operational productivity during night fishing — a critical period for tuna handline activities. This initiative reflects the continued commitment to advancing the FIP’s objectives of promoting safety, sustainability, and improved working conditions for fishers.
