BFAR National Director Elizer Salilig Visits General Santos City, Expresses Support for FFSAPI-SARGEN Handline FIP

On February 13, 2025, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) National Director, Elizer Salilig, visited General Santos City to engage with key stakeholders in the fishing industry.

During his meeting with the SARGEN Handline Fishing Association, the Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) was presented highlighting its background, progress, and objectives.

Director Salilig expressed BFAR’s keen interest in supporting the project’s goals and activities, recognizing its significance in ensuring the long-term viability of the tuna handline industry. He emphasized BFAR’s commitment to fostering sustainable fisheries and assured the association of continued support.

The visit marks a crucial step in strengthening collaboration between BFAR and the handline fishing community in General Santos City. With increased government backing, the FIP is poised to make significant strides toward its 2027 completion goal, ultimately benefiting thousands of handline fishers, tuna processors, and allied industries in the region.
