Additional ALON Vessel Tracking Units Installed

As part of the ongoing effort to strengthen monitoring, control, and traceability in the local handline tuna fishery, the FIP oversaw the installation of 7 additional ALON vessel tracking units on November 7, 2025.  This further expands the fleet equipped with real-time tracking technology.

The units were generously donated by the City Government of General Santos, demonstrating the city’s continued commitment to supporting sustainable fisheries management and promoting transparency across the sector.

The ALON system, a localized, cost-efficient alternative to traditional Vessel Monitoring Systems, provides continuous tracking of vessel movement and activity. Its integration into more handline vessels enhances safety at sea and ensures greater alignment with both government and international market expectations, particularly for fisheries participating in the FFSAPI–SARGEN Handline FIP.

The installation of these additional units marks another key step toward a more transparent, accountable, and sustainably managed tuna handline fishery in General Santos City.
