The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) conducted a review and consultation on the NTMP 2019-2023 on May 29-30, 2024, in Quezon City. The event gathered stakeholders from the tuna industry to assess progress, discuss achievements, and propose improvements for sustainable tuna management.
Key attendees included representatives from various organizations in Region 12. DA-BFAR officials presented a detailed implementation report, highlighting significant milestones and areas needing improvement.
Agriculture Undersecretary Drusila Esther Bayate emphasized collaboration among stakeholders, while DA-BFAR Officer-in-Charge Isidro M. Velayo, Jr. underscored the Bureau’s commitment to sustainable tuna management.
The workshop reviewed activities under Goals 1 and 2 of the NTMP. To ensure comprehensive coverage of Goal 3, participants agreed to circulate the workshop file for further input until June 10th, followed by an online review session. This approach ensures a thorough examination of all NTMP goals.
