The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) met with the target stakeholders particularly the members of the SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing & Allied Industries Incorporated (SFFAII) for the Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and Digital Self-Assessment Checklist (DSAC) Orientation last April 17, 2024, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Cilantro Function Room, Greenleaf Hotel, General Santos City. The event welcomed 20 participants from various areas of the fishing industry, with representatives from both manufacturing (canning and fresh frozen sectors) and suppliers (handline and purse-seine sectors).
The session began with the TNA, which served as a crucial component in preparing for the upcoming Training of Trainers (TOT) program. This program aims to increase the capacity of employers in the rural sector to adopt and promote responsible business conduct throughout their supply chains. Through the TNA, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and assessments to identify specific training needs and opportunities for growth in their respective sectors
In addition to the TNA, the event introduced the Digital Self-Assessment Checklist (DSAC). The DSAC is designed to collect initial inputs on how to customize the tool for the fishing sector. During the orientation, participants offered valuable feedback on the DSAC, sharing insights on factors that may not apply to their specific industries and suggesting new elements to include in the checklist. This open dialogue allowed for the development of a more tailored and effective tool to address the unique challenges faced by different areas of the fishing industry.
The gathering concluded on a positive note, with all sectors of the fishing industry working collaboratively towards a common goal of enhancing responsible business conduct and sustainable practices in their supply chains. Participants left with a clearer understanding of the steps needed to achieve these objectives and expressed enthusiasm for future opportunities to apply their new knowledge and skills in their respective fields
Overall, the event was a resounding success, fostering productive discussions and providing a platform for the exchange of ideas among industry professionals. The collaboration and insights gained during the orientation will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of the fishing sector as it navigates the evolving landscape of responsible business conduct.
