FIP Updates Presented during the General Santos City Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Council Regular Meeting

The City Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Council (CFARMC) of General Santos City is a multi-sectoral body that plays a vital role in the sustainable management of the city’s fisheries and aquatic resources. Established in 2013 through the City Fisheries Code, the CFARMC is composed of representatives from the local government, fisherfolk organizations, non-government organizations, and the private sector.

During the regular monthly meeting of the General Santos CFARMC last November 9, 2023 at the City Agriculture’s Office Training Center, Ms. Shalimar Abdurahman of SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. presented updates on the FFSAPI-SARGEN Tuna Handline Fisheries Improvement Project.

A short video showcasing the current progress and updates of the FIP project was also presented during her talk, including the upcoming activities.

The presentation concluded with a call to action, urging all attendees to play their part in safeguarding the oceans, supporting the industry, and protecting livelihoods.

The CFARMC of General Santos City is a valuable partner in the sustainable management of the city’s fisheries and aquatic resources. The CFARMC’s work is helping to ensure that the city’s fisheries will continue to provide a sustainable livelihood for fisherfolk and a source of nutritious food for the community.
