The Fisheries Improvement Plan (FIP) of the Sargen Fish Port Tuna Handline Fishing Association, Inc. Yellowfin and Bigeye Tuna Fishery in the Philippine Fisheries Management Areas 2 and 3 was launched on September 15, 2021, which aims to achieve Marine Stewardship Council Standard Certification by improving the fishery to follow this “golden standard”.
Fresh Frozen Seafood Association of the Philippines, Inc. (FFSAPI) and Sargen Handline Fishing Association, Inc. have taken the next step towards achieving their FIP goals.
The Implementing Team
In a recent development, they have granted the contract for their project effective January 17, 2023 to Contreras Professional Consultancy Corp., a consultancy firm located in General Santos City.
CPCC will serve as the implementing team of FFSAPI-SARGEN HANDLINE FIP Project. This is in relation to the initiative to seek Marine Stewardship Council Certification for the Yellowfin and Bigeye fishery in the Philippines’ Fishery Management Areas 2 and 3 of the Sargen Fish Port Tuna Handline Fishing Association, Inc. CPCC’s expertise in the seafood industry and their extensive knowledge of sustainable fisheries will help FFSAPI and Sargen Handline Fishing Association, Inc. make informed decisions and implement best practices to achieve their FIP objectives.

According to FFSAPI, Sargen Handline Fishing Association, Inc., and CPCC, the success of the FIP depends on the full support, cooperation, and co-implementation of all stakeholders. By working together, they hope to create a fishery that is both sustainable and ethical and can also supply the market with the increasing demand for seafood products.
The signing of the contract between FFSAPI and CPCC marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their journey towards sustainable fisheries. They remain committed to achieving their FIP objectives and to working together towards a sustainable and prosperous future for the seafood industry.
